Basic Info

Regis is a no-nonsense man who comes across as really cold. He's a perfectionist who expects the best from everyone he associates with, which is a problem when it comes to his incompetent son, Deems. His prodigy step-daughter, on the other hand, is someone he loves and respects.

  • Despite his coldness, he does truly believe "tough love" is the best way to "fix" people.
  • He has a bit of a temper, but doesn't resort to physical violence. His anger mainly shows through a stern raised voice.

Trivia

  • His name is meant to be a pun of "Regimental," but it's also just one of Deems' "reject" names. In that way, Deems "fathered" him.

History

Main Canon (Deems)

Regis was a pretty passive, awkward teen who ended up being pressured into having sex by his girlfriend; it was a classic "you're only asexual because you haven't tried it" yet. He tried it. He didn't like it. But regardless of his opinions, his girlfriend became pregnant, and as to not bring shame upon his family, he married his partner.

He never wanted a kid, having loftier goals of going to college, but these were cut short, now having to provide for a kid at just 19.

His wife stayed home and took care of the kid, while he worked, but as time wore on, he became more and more resentful of the two of them. His wife spoiled Deems, while he wanted him to be raised strict, but due to him being the breadwinner of the family, he had little say over how Deems was raised half of the time. When he learned a like-minded co-worker was a single parent with her own kid, he finally decides to take the leap and divorce his wife and marry his co-worker. His ex-wife, being co-dependent, commits suicide shortly after.

He's happy to have his own son raised jointly by him and his new wife, both of which are very strict. He compares Deems to his step-daughter, Sakura, constantly, which leads to Deems gaining a lot of self-esteem problems.

Deems Mendel (Son)

Regis

Regis is tired of Deems and has been for a long time. He does wish he were never born, but instead of complaining about him at every turn like Deems does to him, he'd rather pretend he doesn't exist, never bringing him up unless forced to acknowledge him.

Deems

Deems' father was pretty strict and un-loving towards him, which has made Deems utterly hate him. While his father wasn't a good parent, Deems' hate goes farther than deserved, calling him a murderer (him leaving his mom helped cause the co-dependent woman's death), as well as a pedophile (they dated when she was 17 and he was 19, though his mom was the one being pushy with things; when younger, his dad was a pushover).

Sakura Mendel (Step-Daughter)

Regis

Sakura is everything Regis wishes his son were, so he respects her to a high degree. He wished she'd have been less of a childish bully to Deems sometimes, but he can't fault her too much, as he hoped the bullying might've helped motivate his son to try harder. Regrettably, even when Deems tried hard, he was incompetent.

Sakura

Sakura appreciates Regis' high standards and the fact that he lets it be known that she's "better" than Deems. He was a bit of an enabler of Sakura's more childish side, which made her like him even more.

Really, the only criticism she has of him is that he helped birth Deems, but that was a minor blessing in disguise, given he's fun to mess with.
