About Me

I don't really talk about myself much, and in this age, one shouldn't be too personal, because people are crazy vindictive over the smallest things. So here are just a bunch of things I like. This isn't exhaustive, but hopefully I included most of my favorites.

Games

Mysteries/Puzzles

  • Ace Attorney
    • Dear to my heart, due to me being a mod of the community on G+. We hosted OC Contests and Mafia games. Good times...
  • Ghost Trick
    • Shu Takumi never misses.
  • Umineko no Naku Koro Ni
    • I have yet to fully read Higurashi, but that's good too, from what I know of it; I've watched the anime
  • Hotel Dusk
    • Underrated mystery game on the DS. Unique puzzles, nice mystery, and a realistic cast of flawed characters. Fun rotoscoped artstyle too.
  • Outer Wilds
    • Really well-made game, outside of this one area being super difficult with mouse and keyboard (it does warn that one should play on controller, but I don't play enough games to buy a controller). It's a game that sticks with you.
  • The House in Fata Morgana
    • I don't remember much from it, but I remember enjoying it overall
  • Portal
    • I never actually played the first game (but I watched it), and only played 2 for the first time in 2023, but I can see why it's so beloved. Fantastic puzzle game with both an interesting plot and great humor.
  • Danganronpa 1 & 2
    • Casual fan, outside of my love for Gundham. I haven't actually played any of them, but I watched them all, including the spinoff and V3. I wasn't a big fan of V3.

RPGs

  • Tales Series
    • Abyss, Symphonia, Eternia, and Vesperia are my favorites. Played Xillia 2, Berseria, and Graces f as well
  • Baldur's Gate 3
    • I have not touched the others; I played as a Warlock (Absit) and a Bard/Sorcerer (Gatlin). I'd like to try Monk (Idunn) someday
  • Digimon World 3
    • My childhood. I replay it every once and a while. Nostalgia may paint my vision of it, but it's a great game. I love the quirkiness of the world.
  • Golden Sun
    • Also my childhood. The Lost Age is my favorite (normie opinion), but I played all three. I find the speedruns neat too.

Strategy

  • Fire Emblem
    • Shadows of Valentia, Tellius games, and Binding Blade are my favorites. Played all mainlines but Genealogy and Three Houses.
  • Valkyria Chronicles
    • Only played 1 and really like it; I own 4 too.

Other

  • Stardew Valley
    • A homey, cozy game. I'm not particularly invested in any of the cast, which is a shame, but the gameplay is nice, and it's one of the best multiplayer games I've found.
  • Team Fortress 2
    • I'm a very casual fan and haven't played in probably 15 years, but I really appreciate the characters and comedy of it all, and back when it was first out, I did play quite a lot of it with my dad, sisters, and cousins. Very fond memories.

Shows

Anime

  • Fullmetal Alchemist
    • Manga is best, but 2003 has nicer animation consistency and music, and Brotherhood is a decent retelling of the manga, even if they took away some good Kimblee scenes
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica
    • One of the few stories where I know there are problems but I can wave them off and still
  • Paranoia Agent
    • Good show. Fun animation. I like that it's based off of a real event
  • Kaiji
    • It can drag, but otherwise, I'm a huge fan of death games, and this one keeps the stakes high, where the main character isn't infallible.
  • Mr. Tonegawa: Middle Management Blues
    • Kaiji spin-off,. Not a death game, but very amusing.
  • Prison School
    • I'm not normally into raunchy, but the humor was top notch for me
  • Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
    • I just found it well-done, but I only watched it once, as it was airing, so I should rewatch and see if it holds up.
  • Love Live
    • Only the original and the first season of Sunshine. I found the second season of Sunshine terrible (overly tropey, even for this show).
  • El Hazard: The Magnificent World
    • I've watched all El Hazard content, and do enjoy a lot of moments from The Wanderers too, but only for Jinnai. Jinna is amazing, and I love his relationship to Ifurita in the anime. Otherwise, the OVA is best. I only found this anime in college due to Jinnai being in an Evil Laugh Compilation video and that instantly made me need to know who he was. I thought he was an evil businessman. In the end, he was an evil high school class president. Love him to bits.
  • Fruits Basket
    • I watched the original as a teen, and read the entire manga (good manga), then also watched the "new" anime that covers the full manga. Very good story; I like Tohru's struggle a lot. My only gripe is a lot of the tropey cringey anime stuff at the start, but it gets better later.
  • Attack on Titan
    • Started slow (outside of that opening episode), but got a lot better into the second half of Season 1. I have a little nostalgia for it, due to being recommended to me by a guy from college, and watching the latter half of the first season as it first came out. It's been over ten years. Man...
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion
    • Watched it during middle or high school. Fond memories, due to the depression/edginess.
  • Made in Abyss
    • Very intruiging show if you get past the... weirdness of the creator. It could fail to stick the landing, but for now, I'm very impressed.
  • Land of the Lustrous/Houseki no Kuni
    • Uniqe premise and I really like the Ship of Theseus thing they had going on. I read the whole manga, and this is one of the shows I wish most had a Season 2.
  • Promised Neverland - SEASON ONE/MANGA
    • Such a strong start, and despite the anime falling off HARD in Season 2, I feel like Season 1 can still be watched on its own. One obviously won't get the full story, but it's at a decent enough ending point.

Cartoon

  • Venture Bros.
    • One of the best cartoons out there. Humorous, good animation (in later seasons), great characters, interesting plot, etc.)
  • BoJack Horseman
    • It might get a bit repetitive with the relapsing by the end (not that it isn't realistic), but overall, a very relatable show, and I say that as someone who doesn't partake in any vices. But depression? I've got plenty of that. Ha.
  • Moral Orel
    • Starts out with shock humor, but gets a lot deeper by the end, which I appreciate. I wish it didn't get canceled. Clay Puppington is great. Love him.
  • Common Side Effects
    • Very interesting premise and animation. The characters/humor are a little awkward, in a good way. They feel realistic.

Live Action

  • Arrested Development
    • Humorous with fun flawed characters and an actual plot. This is my kind of show.
  • Breaking Bad
    • I didn't watch it until a few years after it stopped airing, but yeah, it's a classic for a reason. Gripping.
  • Better Call Saul
    • Wow, one of the best characters in Breaking Bad got his own show? Wonderful. Howard Hamlin deserved better.
  • Lost
    • My dad watched it as it was airing and to this day says it was one of the worst shows ever due to them just "making things up," so it was never on my radar. Then Billiam made a multi-video essay on the show, and I decided "this sounds really neat" and watched it in full on Netflix. Thankfully, my memory is utterly terrible, so despite watching a 20+ hour summary, I remembered almost none of the twists. Ben is great. I love Ben. I want to rewatch for Ben.
  • Alice in Borderland
    • This could technically be under "manga" if I had a book category, since I read it too. Good Death Game. Way better than Squid Game.
  • Liar Game
    • Another good Death Game, recommended to me in high school by a fellow anime fan. It certainly has the Japanese "quirk" of being over-the-top sometimes, but looking past that (which is a personal taste), it's pretty good, from what I remember. I should rewatch it for a third time someday...

Childhood

  • Digimon
    • My childhood. I first saw it on FOX (as Season 1 was still airing) while flipping off of PBS, and seeing this big dragon fight. I miss the anticipation of waiting for new episodes on Saturday morning, and looking up info on the new Digimon before the season started in America. I miss that childlike wonder... No surprise, Tamers is my favorite, but I like Adventure and 02 a ton too, even if I've heard after the fact that 02 was kind of bad. I started to become less interested when Frontier happened (turning into Digimon? Meh), but then watched Data Squad in college and enjoyed that too, though not to the level of the first tree seasons. I tried the series after that, but wasn't invested enough. I tried Ghost Game and really liked it at first, but it being episodic made me eventually drop it. I want a wide-sweeping adventure, darn it!
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! (original & GX)
    • My slightly older childhood. I'm not sure how I got into it, but Seto Kaiba might've been my first "obsession character," despite me now probably finding Joey better. I was a fan up to perhaps the second season of GX (Chazz/Manjoume SANDA!) was very good too. I have also watched Vrains and Arc V (both dubbed) and do find Vrains pretty good, but not "one of my favorite shows" good. I tried to watch Zexal and failed twice, but I should try again. I heard it's actually decent.
  • Pokemon
    • I liked it when it first came out, and my dad would voice act James sometimes, but Digimon was superior to me. Then, I fell in love with it again (the Japanese version, this time) in high school, making Flash videos about it and watching the original and Johto in Japanese in full. Good times. I kept watching the new season (Black and White) in college, a big fan of Dento (Cilan) and his Engrish. I did drop it midway through.
  • Xiaolin Showdown (original)
    • Jack Spider is incredible. He was smart enough to cheat on his IQ test. What a legend.
