March, 2026: General

I didn't write any entries this month, so I'll just give an overview.

March 4 - March 15: Paralympics!

Look at this beautiful man.

My mom and I watched basically everything that was airing. We found Wheelchair Curling more interesting than my mom first thought from previous years. Some of these games were pretty intense, despite there being no sweeping. Lots of tense moments, including a really good win by the US against the undefeated China—though we weren't able to medal. Still, we got into the Semi-Finals, only due to defeating the undefeated China, so I consider that a huge success. We lost our next game.

We did pretty good in Cross-Country, including winning the relay, which is always nice. I love team events. Downhill stuff was more of a mixed bag.

While not particularly caring about Hockey normally, I was a big fan of Paralympic Hockey, my favorite player being Brody Royball, originally for his name (it rolls off the tongue, and I'd often repeat his name whenever they referenced it), but later, I became a fan for his goofiness, after a little story on him. He's a guy who can poke fun at his disability, which I can appreciate.

Ice Gold

Advertising worked on us, because after a little story on NBC advertising it, my mom and I watched this documentary about the Paralympic Ice Hockey team called "Ice Gold," on Peacock. It was pretty interesting. They actually hired a non-disabled coach for the job, who never even heard of sled hockey, which caused a lot of drama, because the coach from the really good club thought he deserved the role and kind of harassed people through email during the whole process. He was definitely framed as the villain of the story.

It was a great underdog story about the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. The US was only even allowed to compete because they were the host nation, ranked 6th out of 6, with 5th place "to be Announced," at the time. The story documented the lead up to the games, and there was a ton of footage because two people were hired to document the journey in advance.

It was especially fun against Canada. Apparently, some Canadian player told a kid sitting out of the game that he's not good enough to even be on the worst team, which he told the rest of his teammates, which further motivated them to win. The US goes on to beat Canada, along with everyone else, the last game against the reigning champions (Norway) going down to a super close shootout. Tense!

It was minor in the grand scheme of things, but I found it neat that one of the disabled men partook in Civil War reenactments, and his missing leg made for a really good wounded soldier. I should make a character with that same quirk.

Game

One of the many characters I made assets for.

Technically starting in February, I picked up my game again, drawing a bunch of assets, making Absit's house, and finally adding Gatlin, among other things. I still don't have any optimism that I'll actually finish it, and that's fine, as I'm doing it for fun, not with lofty goals. And regardless of me ever finishing it, it's nice that these assets are also useful for character references elsewhere.

Site

I also started working more heavily on this site again during the last two days of March and into April (hello, it's the 6th today). I'm trying to finally add the remaining "lesser" characters I never added: mainly side characters and family members of more important characters.
