Basic Info

A sarcastic, laid back inventor with a morbid sense of humor. Known to cut corners, while still having the confidence that his inventions/plan will still succeed, even if they include some unintended consequences, which he shrugs off as being worth the risk (and perhaps even part of the fun). He's overall pretty selfish, but has a soft spot for kids. Enjoys teasing and scaring people to get a rise out of them, all while being pretty calm and deadpan, himself.

Trivia

  • Name: Morris Domus = Mors Domus = "Death House" in Latin. "Holmes" is another "house" reference, along with harkening back to H.H. Holmes, the famous Chigaco World's Fair serial killer known for his "Murder Castle" (though it's way overblown).
  • Being from a monochrome world, at base, all his clothing is grey too, but while I don't have an idea for it yet, I like to think he escapes that world—or the world changes, and from there, he likes wearing bright clothing, to embrace the change.
    • (Technically, his original self did have a backstory for escaping that world, which is why he has so many images wearing color, but that's moot now.)
  • He wears colored contacts. His original irises are grey (or brown, as an Earth human).
  • Despite the whole "serial killer" thing, him constantly playing with knives has nothing to do with that. He's never stabbed someone to death.
  • He makes up various stories on how he lost his horn, depending on the person (oh no, he's the Joker, baby).
  • He picks up all sorts of odd inventing jobs and doesn't tend to care what he's doing or who it's for, so long as he's paid.
  • He has prosthetic legs. Like his horns, he lies about where they came from. Originally, I had him ask for them himself, to dodge the authorities, but perhaps that should be changed now and he actually lost them. I don't know. Schrodinger's Backstory.
  • He's fascinated by sea creatures, and loves visiting aquariums. He especially loves the underwater domes.
  • It wasn't intentional, but I joke that he's "Evil AU Lambert." Both are Tiefling inventors with a soft spot for kids, with yellow and red details.

History

Main Canon (Monochrome Tiefling)

Morris grew up as an orphan in drab and monochrome world that was just as miserable as the colors made it look. Most people were poor and struggling to survive, and even the upper class tended to have major tragedy in their lives.

As a kid, Morris got by through tricking and stealing from those better off than him, but despite his life of crime, he always believed a "Robin Hoood"-esque hero role was in his future. When he's 15, he decides to commit his first big, daring deed, planning on robbing the big, fancy nearby casino. Little does he know the boss in charge has major ties to the criminal underworld.

He's caught, and retaliation by Gatlin and his thugs is brutal, taking Morris' left eye and horn, but instead of killing him, Gatlin decides he wants him alive, for his spade-like tail (he likes the aesthetics of "card suit" tieflings as staff). With little choice, Morris accepts his offer and works for him. He is paid well, though it's still against his will. Slavery lite.

He is tasked with doing odd jobs around the casino: often as a greeter, but sometimes as a janitor or even a mechanic. Knowing Morris' past as a cheat and a crook, Gatlin also pulls him into shadier dealings when he thinks he'd be of use. Morris doesn't like doing bad things for the rich guy who maimed him, but he accepts, fearing he'll be killed, otherwise.

As years go by, Morris picks up the hobby of engineering, after working with so many machines, and Gatlin takes note of this. He offers Morris a deal: he can leave the casino and do whatever job he wants in the city, but on one condition: if Gatlin sends a guy his way to die in a mechanical "accident," there better be an "accident."

Morris accepts, and starts working as a freelance inventor. Usually, it was just odd jobs, but occasionally, he gets to work on projects that were his real passion: rides. Even without Gat's influence, his business wasn't entirely above board. Using his contraptions and innate talent for Illusion macic, he'd often steal from people—especially (but not always) the rich—both to make ends meet and also just because it was fun.

In my original write up, he eventually was found out and had to go on the run, but I'm not sure if I'll do that anymore.

Earth Canon (Human)

Overall, the same, except Gatlin's not a crimeboss and isn't responsible for Morris' missing eye. He likely lost it to some normal gang stuff instead. He works freelance, which includes for Gatlin, usually fixing up machines. Perhaps Gatlin commissions him to make a few too, but if Morris does, he makes them exploitable by himself to earn some extra money.

Sayona Leannen ("Adopted" Little Sister)

Morris

Sayona is the one person in the world Morris actually loves and cares for, and he's very protective over her, but perhaps also feels like he can't show his face to her anymore, depending on how tied he was to her accident.

I'm not set on if he truly tries to dodge her seeing him, but if he does, he still tries his best to support her through sending payments, or just trying to make her life easier from the shadows.

Feelings
Feelings

Sayona

From a very young age, Sayona was "adopted" by Morris as a little sister, and she still thinks of him that way. She used to go along with all his schemes, no matter the criminality, but as she got older, she started being more against that. She still cares deeply for him, but she's critical of some of the shady things he's done/is doing.

Gatlin: Monochrome (Morris' Main Canon)

Morris

In Morris' Tiefling Monochrome canon, Gat's a much more heartless crimeboss (still with a jokey side, but it's SCARIER), and there, Morris is an employee and actively despises Gat. Gat is responsible for his missing horn and damaged eye. Morris doesn't show his anger, but waits for the day he can one day torture the man in revenge. But until then, he'll quietly buy his time, and be an overall diligent employee.

Feelings
Feelings

Gatlin

Gat "likes" Morris, just as a (for now) diligent employee. He's one of his more skilled employees, already used to sneaking around and breaking into things.

Images

Gatlin: Earth (Gatlin's Main Canon)

Morris (Human)

In Gatlin's main canon, Morris is NOT a Tiefling, and he's a contracted mechanic Gat occasionally hires. They don't interact much, but they get along well enough, with Morris holding some ill will towards him, simply because he's a rich idiot who wastes money as a "joke." Morris might take advantage of him on occasion, by casually mentioning some sob story (pretty emotionless about it all the while), but it's nothing too extreme.

Feelings
Feelings

Gatlin

Gatlin doesn't know Morris particularly well, but he likes almost everyone by default, thus likes Morris. He talks to him on the job pretty often, which Morris would prefer didn't happen.
